Technology News for

"Turbo"

Turbo
Most modern diesel cars have a Turbo fitted to their engines. The Turbo helps to boost the power of the engine and this type of technology has been around for sometime. Problems with early Turbos included a phenomenum called Turbo lag whereby the motorist pressed the accelerator and nothing happened at first yet after a few seconds a great surge of power could be experienced. This in turn caused problems and accidents could be had as certain drivers lost control of the car because the power kicked in unexpectedly. However, modern Turbo units are far more responsive and the lag suffered from old units has all but been eliminated. Some models that have a Turbo fitted might experience a slight lag but it`s minimal compared to the lag of old. As with any car component turbos can become faulty over a period of time especially when cars start to clock up high miles. Replacement units can be sourced and some owners opt for reconditioned turbos however the reliability of these units might be brought into question. For peace of mind new turbochargers should be fitted to cars that have had problems with their old types of turbos. With a new Turbo fitted the power will increase and the fuel economy will be improved.
